- “To put it this way, they took a cool concept for a movie, and they got people who knew jack-shit about YouTube to make the movie, the recipe for a disaster is what was going to happen, and is what we got.”
- — MauLer
- “If I had to summarise YouTube: The Movie in just a few words, it would be "self-promoted advertisement for big internet users", because that's all this movie is! It's nothing more than an advertisement for random YouTubers that either people nobody care for, and YouTubers that we actually do care for, but deserve better than what they had here!”
- — Issacarthy
- “In all honesty, this was the most miserable experience that I have ever had to go through, not only did I just waste several months of my fucking life to star in a pile of shit movie, but everyone in the studio made me feel like a stupid retard and a crazy lunatic. Like, do you really think I actually take Thomas & Friends that seriously?!”
- — James A. Williams
- “I really liked being in a movie. But when I saw YouTube: The Movie on opening night, I just decided to fully retire. Screw that movie.”
- — Dane Bodigheimer
YouTube: The Movie is a 2025 comedy-action-drama film that stars lots of famous YouTubers, it was distributed by Moovex Entertainment and was directed by Rian Johnson, Nail Marshall and Joseph Joggle (the same mastermind behind his infamous grounded series Brandon Bott Gets Grounded) and produced by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (who are also well-known for creating movies like Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie etc). It stars YouTubers such as PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, Aphmau, MVPerry, The Angry Video Game Nerd (James Rolfe), Tobuscus, Smosh, Chadtronic, PeanutButterGamer, Angry Joe, JonTron, Gaming in the Clinton Years (George Wood), Nostalgia Critic (Doug Walker), MrBeast, Ninja, DanTDM, SkyDoesMinecraft, Fred (Lucas Cruikshank), Annoying Orange (Daneboe), Nathaniel Bandy, Scott the Woz, Caddicarus, ConnorTheWaffle, RogersBase, SomecallmeJohnny, SuperMarioLogan, Poofesure, The Shuckmeister, James A. Williams, Jeffrey Kitsch, TheMysteriousMrEnter, MisAnthroPony, Pyrocynical, Memeulous, ImAllexx, WillNE, James Marriott, Joe Weller, KSI, Driv3rjoe, Charmx, Shane Dawson, MessYourself, MatPat from The Game Theorists, Callum's Corner, Flippy, ImJayStation, SammyClassicSonicFan, N&A Productions, Morgz, Jake Paul, Logan Paul, Art's Animations, etc.
It premiered on February 14th, 2025 on YouTube for free for a limited time before it started premiering in cinemas soon after it premiered on YouTube. The film is considered R-rated due to sexual themes, coarse language, and graphic violence.
Plot
The entire world notices that YouTube is removing tons of features from the website for seemingly no reason. When news stations interrogate Susan Wojcicki, she claims that she has no idea why these features have been removed and she doesn't have any idea who is doing this, so the President concludes that a hacker is trying to ruin the website so he sends a team of various YouTubers off on a journey to find out who is hacking the website and is removing the features off of the YouTube website.
Why It's Not Broadcasting Itself
- The story is very simplistic and stupid, it is just about a YouTube gang trying to stop a hacker from deleting everything off a website.
- Much like many movies that were made by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the movie relies way too much on pop culture references, even to the point where they make references to memes, including ones that are not even relevant anymore.
- Rian, Neil, and Joseph did not give any of the YouTubers or actors in the film any creative freedom and seemingly did not let them play as themselves, this resulted in many YouTubers in the film acting nothing like their actual personalities in real life:
- PewDiePie is reduced to being just a silly coward who always gets scared of everything, even just a minor thing like a slight door slam.
- Toby Turner is now an annoying knucklehead who swears all the time to the point it gets very repetitive and it ultimately isn't even funny.
- Logan Thirtyacre is nothing more than a butt-monkey who is always kicked around by the people at YouTube and no one in the movie seems to care whenever something bad happens to him.
- Nearly the entirety of the SuperMarioLogan characters have suffered from even flanderization than how they did in 2017:
- Bowser Junior is more sadistic and cruel, often making hateful comments toward people he dislikes for no reason other than seeking attention.
- Jeffy is way more stupid, annoying, and insufferable than how he was, most of his recurring jokes are used every time he appears, which gets old fast.
- MrBeast is just a greedy idiot who likes to steal money just so he could be the richest man on earth.
- RogersBase is now a massive weeaboo who treats Japanese culture like it is a cure for cancer.
- Aphmau became an overly emotional person that is always sad most of the time and barely smiles.
- MVPerry is now a weeaboo who is obsessed with anime girls and cosplays.
- James Woods is even more idiotic compared to how he was in his game reviews, he now tries to convince every person in the YouTube gang to cheat in order to win.
- Linkara is now a sexist and homophobic idiot who has a strong hate boner towards gay people for some reason.
- SomecallmeJohnny is now a toxic fanboy of Street Fighter 2 who treats the game like it's a gift from God and he constantly forces Street Fighter fans to like the game and to hate Street Fighter 3.
- Memeulous is now crazy obsessed with playing Minecraft all day long and every time he is on screen, he always has to make a reference to a random outdated meme.
- ImAllexx is now reduced into a gay stereotype who is only sexually attracted to Memeulous for whatever reason and no one else, which makes no sense because he's not actually gay in real life, and is actually bisexual.
- WillNE is now just an annoying jerk who is overly excited about everything and he acts like Morgz, except even more immature.
- James Marriott has absolutely no personality at all in this movie other than being there so he can be a yes-man for Memeulous, ImAllexx, and WillNE.
- Jake Paul is now an even bigger idiot than he already is and is so idiotic that he makes Homer Simpson and Patrick Star look smart in comparison.
- Angry Joe is now a monotone and a boring goofball who rambles on and on about how the Xbox One was "a massive failure and one of the biggest mistakes Microsoft has ever made".
- ConnorTheWaffle is now a scam artist who claims to have come up with his own creations, but he actually stole them from other people.
- The Nostalgia Critic is way whinier and is a massive manchild who makes petty insults towards movies and he calls bad directors "retarded", which is ableist.
- Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, while still somewhat likable, have become a lot stupider than they were in their original Smosh skits.
- The Shuckmeister is now an absolute idiot who makes terrible theories about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure that don't make any sense whatsoever and relies way too much on making everyone believe them.
- BlashphamousHD is now a neurotic coward who screams in an ear rape tone whenever he gets scared by something, his screams are so loud that they could be comparable to Jimmy Barnes (the screaming cowboy in the "Big Enough" music video), Fred Figglehorn, Kwebellkop, Super Minecraft Kid and SammyClassicSonicFan.
- Amir from N&A productions is somehow even more annoying and loud than he is in his 3 AM videos, and ultimately is always holding the heroes back due to his stupidity and his constant yelling.
- Flippy is nothing more than just a toxic fanboy of Saints Row who constantly forces everyone to like the game or he will "smack their asses".
- James A. Williams is now a toxic Thomas & Friends fanboy who takes his hatred towards the bad seasons of the show and Mattel way too seriously, it was even to the point where he does illegal activities to spread his message about how he thinks that the show should revert back to how it originally was.
- AniMat, while somewhat likable, is way too obsessed over politics and often never stops rambling about how much he hates Trump and how he thinks that Joe Biden will save the world, but luckily, he doesn't completely bash on others if they have different political views.
- TheMysteriousMrEnter is now a more toxic hater of Family Guy who takes his hatred towards the show even more seriously than originally did, it was to the point where he harassed Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the team behind the show and even told them to kill themselves at one point. He also became even more obsessed over politics than he originally did and never stops ranting about how Turning Red never had a 9/11 reference in it, and whenever someone calls him out for complaining about that, he straight up harasses that person.
- MisAnthroPony is arguably the 'worst character in the entire movie, as all of his redeeming qualities are non-existence and there is absolutely nothing admirable or entertaining about his character, as he seems to be an even more toxic hater of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Last of Us Part II, My Little Pony: A New Generation, and Nostalgia Critic and goes as far as to send death threats to people who worked on them and to people who like them and he even compared them all to the Holocaust, he even went as far as to try and kill Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill at one point, but luckily, his plan failed when Schaffrillas Productions and AniMat stopped him.
- Annoying Orange is now even more annoying than he originally was, to the point where he is not even funny. In fact, as stated in the 4th quote at the top of the page, the movie was so bad for Dane Bodigheimer (the portrayer and creator of The Annoying Orange), that he had to quit any of his future plans of acting in movies.
- Fred Figglehorn is somehow even worse than he originally was in both the web series, the Fred trilogy, and his TV show, as he screams in every scene he is in and often resorts to anger at moments that feel out of place, it doesn't help that all of his redeeming qualities gone to the point where his redemption is horrible hopeless.
- LS Mark is now just a pessimist who likes pissing off people for having different opinions from his, which is notable in the scene where insulted a bunch of Pokémon fans for liking Pokémon Detective Pikachu, calling them mentally defective and claiming that they are fanboys of the live-action Smurfs movies, which is a scene that can easily offend fans of the Detective Pikachu.
- ImJayStation is now pretty much an awful person who loves disrespecting the dead, and they're even worse than the 3 AM videos he did on his YouTube channel.
- Wengie is now a drug addict who smokes marijuana on a daily basis and she would condemn people who are drug-free.
- InquisitorMaster is even worse than before as she is a whiny spoiled brat who is egocentric most of the time and she would throw a temper tantrum when things don't get her way. She also now likes to rape boys.
- Albert the Animator is now obsessed with playing EAS Alarms from other countries in front of people for no reason at all.
- Joe Weller is now an aggressive monster who will beat the hell out of anyone who gets in his way.
- The Vlogbrothers are supposed to be portrayed as a benefactor for the YouTube gang, but they are also portrayed as lazy jerks who don't do anything to tell everyone the truth.
- Nexpo is now a gullible and delusional conspiracy theorist who believes anything he sees.
- DaddyOFive is now an even more abusive father than he already was, going as far as to beat up his biological children just for making simple accidents or when he accuses them of doing something that they didn't do.
- Nikocado Avocado is now an even more obnoxious and annoying crybaby who eats even more amounts of food. He is also an extremely poorly-written and executed villain.
- The Vegan Teacher is just as bad, if not, worse than MisAnthroPony since she is not only more toxic about her views on veganism, but she now supports homophobia, racism, xenophobia, child abuse, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and school shootings, and she praises despicable and evil criminals, and if we were to list all of them, we would be here all day.
- Art's Animations is now annoyingly energetic for no reason, even though he isn't like this originally. He also does not contribute to the plot much.
- The Art's Animations characters are only in here so WBD can get money from the franchise.
- TheRedMarill2007 has more of a explosive temper as he sends death threats to almost everyday.
- BlakeIsHere takes his hatred of Israel, Countryballs, megacorporations (especially Disney and Amazon), The Loud House, Bluey, Taylor Swift and especially soap operas way too far in this movie, going as far as to compare them to the Holocaust. He also uses his hatred of Bluey as a chance to hate on Australians in general.
- Christine Weston Chandler only makes bad fan jokes, obsessing over Sonic and Pokémon.
- Despite being Rated-R, the movie cannot decide its target audience, as it has lots of juvenile humor for a younger audience and tons of family-friendly YouTubers participating, but it also has tons of sexual themes, coarse language, serious subjects, and graphic violence, as well as YouTubers that are meant for older audiences.
- There are many pointless cameos and guest appearances of random celebrities, singers, actors and other people who aren't known for being YouTubers, including every living US President at the time of this movie's release, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Elon Musk, Avril Lavigne, Taylor Swift, Alec Baldwin, Ryan Reynolds, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Shigeru Miyamoto, Masahiro Sakurai, Yuko Shimizu, Tara Strong, Pixie Lott, P!nk, Redfoo, Matt Groening, Al Jean, Seth MacFarlane, Boy George, Jason Derulo, Jack Black, Chris Pratt, Bonnie Tyler, Matt Lucas, Peter Kay, James Cordon, David Walliams, Keith Chapman, Britt Allcroft, Larry David, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Billy West, Coldplay, One Direction, Justin Fletcher, Steven Kynman, John Sparkes, Neil Morrissey, Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Kate Harbour, Sarah Anne Williams, Jenny Yokobori, Cassandra Lee Morris, Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Freddie Highmore, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, Bill Gates, Elton John, Charlie Puth, Miley Cyrus, Meghan Trainor, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Nayeon (TWICE), Jennie (Blackpink), Hillary Clinton, etc.
- To expand further with the previous pointer, some of the celebrities who had appearances in this movie either were completely pointless or acted nothing like how they do in real either:
- Al Jean would resort to lashing out at people for defending Michael Jackson and for calling Leaving Neverland bogus and slander.
- Tara Strong is now way more serious when it comes to veganism, often taking her views on it way too seriously, even lashing out at people for not being vegan.
- Boy George is also reduced to a gay stereotype who serves no purpose other than to brag about "sexy boys" he had met.
- Pixie Lott serves no purpose other than being a love interest for Fred, which was only done just because Pixie Lott played Judy in Fred: The Movie.
- Larry David is just an old man stereotype who uses the "I'm too old!" excuse whenever someone questions why he didn't do something.
- Avril Lavigne is now a massive weeaboo who obsesses over Japanese culture for no reason at all, she even buys an entire castle filled with Hello Kitty furniture and merchandise in one scene.
- Charlie Puth is now an egotistical prick who cannot handle any form of criticism, to the point where he said that people who disliked "Marvin Gaye" and "See You Again" are just "nostalgiatards who need to let go of the past", in which he implies that people who hate that song only like music from the 20th century, which is false.
- There are way too many jokes and references related to internet memes, what makes it worse is that it tries way too hard to reference memes that are no longer relevant anymore and it is one of the pathetic attempts of the movie trying to be hip with kids, some include:
- A reference to the "Let It Grow" song from The Lorax when the YouTube gang convince their viewers to make their channels grow.
- The Angry Video Game Nerd calls Jake Paul a "poopy head", even though it is a nice callback to the AVGN video where he calls out the Nostalgia Critic.
- WillNE purchasing digestive biscuits at Tesco, and when he shows the YouTube gang them, he says "these biscuits AAHHHHHH", as an obvious reference to the "These Biscuits" vine.
- PeanutButterGamer and ConnorTheWaffle ordering Burger King Foot Lettuce.
- iShowSpeed going to a church and singing "God is Good", despite the scene being pretty funny.
- Lots of filler are in the movie, which is often there to pad out the runtime, including:
- A scene where Poofesure and Nathaniel Bandy both played a high-energy game of Wii Sports, which added nothing to the story.
- iShowSpeed having conversations with Talking Ben, but unlike in his YouTube videos where does this, nothing really interesting or funny really happens when he interacts with Ben, Speed just asks him random questions that make no sense, and Ben always responds back with a boring answer that is usually pretty predictable.
- MVPerry, RogersBase, Avril Lavigne, Yuko Shimizu, and a person dressed up in a Hello Kitty mascot outfit dancing to "Hello Kitty" by Avril Lavigne, which is cringe-worthy and pointless. There was even a scene where WillNE tries to commit suicide after witnessing the scene, claiming that he "lost all hope for humanity after seeing that".
- PewDiePie and Marzia dancing at a wedding party for three straight minutes without stopping while the song "Marvin Gaye" by Charlie Puth & Meghan Trainor plays.
- TheRealJims and PhantomStrider trying to choose an episode of The Simpsons to watch on Disney+, which lasts for 3 straight minutes without stopping.
- A horribly cringe-worthy scene where the characters danced to "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" by Silentó, there was even a section of the scene that involved a person in the background getting shot, a likely reference to the incident when Silentó murdered his cousin.
- A filler-worthy and pointless scene that is similar to the Guitar Hero scene in The Smurfs where Poofesure and MVPerry played Just Dance 4 on the Xbox 360, the scene also involves Toby Turner and MessYourself horribly singing along to "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by Boys Town Gang, which is horribly cringe-worthy.
- Despite not being a musical, there's an entire scene where the characters sing "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, which is painful to listen to and serves nothing to the story.
- James A. Williams trying to force Neil Morrissey and Kate Harbour to interview him, and keeps begging them to do it, even though they keep declining.
- Blake is subject to many pointless cutaway gags, many of which are pulled from Family Guy.
- Lots of the jokes in the movie are very cruel and tasteless, some of them are not even "jokes" and are more like references to horrific events that are related to YouTube or just attempts at trying to be edgy, such as:
- The scene where PewDiePie, The Shuckmister, Jeffrey Kitsch & KSI laugh at a body that is hanging in a forest, as a reference to the infamous Logan Paul suicide forest video.
- Peluchin Entertainment claiming that he will kill every cat in the world and that he is god.
- A completely disturbing scene, where James A. Williams and a few crazed Thomas fans shoot up the Mattel headquarters and kill a couple of people there.
- A scene where Jake Paul laughs at dying animals.
- The infamous scene where the Vegan Teacher claimed that eating meat is worse than being sexually abused, garnered massive outrage by social media users on Twitter, to the point where the Vegan Teacher herself got death threats for saying that line.
- A scene involving ImJayStation making hateful comments about Meat Loaf and claiming that he deserved to die, which is completely disrespectful and it gained massive controversy from both Meat Loaf's family and his fans. It was even to the point where both Bonnie Tyler and Boy George called him out for doing that in the exact scene that happens.
- The scene where Elsagate users get killed, while they deserve it, constantly uses gore.
- A scene where Logan Roof, Fooditzen and Louielol and other trolls collaborate together laughing, posting memes, and making jokes about Markiplier's deceased niece and Jacksepticeye's deceased dad, all while making alt accounts to make more memes.
- It heavily panders to early YouTube fans from 2005-2014, as well as the 2000s in general.
- The movie also makes some hypocritical statements by claiming that "2010s music is trash", despite the movie including 2010s songs like "Baby", "See You Again", "Friday", etc.
- The soundtrack is mostly a mess, there being a really unbalanced mix of 2000s music, YouTube songs, rock songs, songs from TV shows, movies, video games, and many more.
- The movie also includes some songs that are poorly received too, like "Baby" by Justin Bieber, "Friday" by Rebecca Black, "Hello Kitty" by Avril Lavigne, "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" by Silentó, and "Marvin Gaye" by Charlie Puth & Meghan Trainor.
- Throughout the entire movie, it can never decide what which person is the main villain, most of the teasers, posters, adverts, and clips often hinted that ImJayStation, The Vegan Teacher, T-Series, MisAnthroPony, DaddyOFive, Christmas Yes Sunny Day No, Talking Ben, Slenderman, Nostalgia Critic, Mr. Goodman were going to be the villains of the movie, and while they are antagonists, they are not the main villains of the movie.
- To continue with the previous pointer, the reveal that Team Godrays, consisting of Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Bob Iger, David Zaslav, Parag Agrawal, Bobby Kotick, Kathleen Kennedy, Rupert Murdoch, Ynon Kreiz, Satya Nadella, Andrew Wilson, J. Allen Brack, Yves Guillemot, Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Dara Khosrowshahi, Reed Hastings, Ted Sarandos, Matt Furlong, Ronnen Harary, Anton Rabie, Roland Cloutier, Perkins Miller, and Hans Vestberg being the twist villains who were removing all the features to YouTube the entire time was probably the stupidest plot twist in the movie, it ultimately doesn't work due to there being way too many villains for the twist to work and many plot-holes:
- If they wanted to stop PewDiePie and the rest of the YouTube gang, why would the first two give them help in finding the hacker?
- Why do they hate YouTube so much and why would they want to destroy it?
- Shameless amount of product placements in the form of Apple, Pokémon, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Just Dance 4, Thomas & Friends, Coca-Cola, Netflix, Disney+, Twitter, Walmart, McDonald's, The Simpsons, Sprite, Nike, Tesco, HMV, Tesla, Vans, Outfit7, Hello Kitty, My Little Pony, Mattel, Hasbro, Google, GameStop, etc.
Redeeming Qualities
- Some YouTubers were lucky to be able to play as themselves as well as being able to play as their own characters, including Chadtronic, Jacksfilms, Nathaniel Bandy, Jacksepticeye, Joji, Filthy Frank, Markiplier, SammyClassicSonicFan, Scott The Woz and the rest of Team F*cked, Caddicarus, MatPat, Schaffrillas Productions, Sideways, CinemaSins, Pappy G, VilligeBoy, Shooting Films, PhantomStrider, iShowSpeed, Callum's Corner, Driv3rjoe, BrickSnap, Charmx, CinemaWins, KSI, PeanutButterGamer, Flamingo, Logan Paul, Just2good, TDR Explorer, The Critical Drinker, Jangbricks, BadlandsChugs, Minchaery (K-tuber) and MessYourself.
- Chadtronic was absolutely hilarious in the film and he still acts like himself in his YouTube videos.
- SammyClassicSonicFan was a very interesting character in the film, and his character was a good way of using the "Heel–Face Turn" trope (a trope where a bad guy turns good in the end).
- MessYourself is actually a pretty entertaining and likable character in the film, despite only being a recurring character.
- Callum's Corner is one of the funniest characters in the movie, and he has tons of unforgettable lines.
- Although he sadly doesn't appear as much as the main characters like PewDiePie in the movie, penguinz0/Cr1tiKal is incredibly hilarious and unforgettable, and maybe the best character in the movie. In a similar vein to the Red Guy from Cow and Chicken, he singlehandedly made the movie better every time he appeared.
- iShowSpeed is absolutely unforgettable and is one of the funniest characters in the movie. His rivalry with Talking Ben is also still hilarious.
- Driv3rjoe comes across as very likable and respectable in the movie, and unlike James A. Williams, he doesn't take his hatred towards Mattel and Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go! too seriously, in fact, he even admits to his mistakes on taking his hatred for them too seriously on Twitter and apologizes to the people he insulted for liking them.
- BrickSnap has quite a bit of unpopular opinions and doesn't care what people think of them, making him a strong, independent character.
- Charmx had a short, yet unforgettable cameo in the movie.
- Despite being kind of annoying, tyler1 is very funny and surprisingly badass.
- Just2good, just like BrickSnap, has a lot of unpopular opinions but also respects other people's opinions.
- Jangbricks is still the nicest guy on YouTube, and he is very kind and likable.
- PhantomStrider is nice and respects other people's opinions as well.
- Flamingo is still a hilarious YouTuber like he was and is otherwise one of the funniest characters in the movie.
- Logan Paul is basically the more mature and likable version of Jake Paul, and he has scenes where he tries to convince the YouTube gang to not fall into the same controversies that he got into.
- BadlandsChugs is still the wise and kind drinks reviewer.
- Minchaery is still a strong person, despite being shy.
- Some of the celebrities who had appearances were likable or had good cameos:
- Neil Morrissey and Kate Harbour had enjoyable cameos and are very likable and respectful towards their fans, despite the annoying scene with James A. Williams forcing them to interview him.
- Bill Clinton's cameo was pretty funny, especially when Caddicarus and George Wood meet him and ask him to back in time to "do some gaming in the Clinton years", a very obvious, yet funny reference to Gaming in the Clinton Years.
- The "Where's Flippy?" joke is absolutely hilarious and a good reminder of Flippy's absence on YouTube.
- SammyClassicSonicFan's death was heartbreaking.
- There were some epic battle scenes, like an awesome scene which had Susan Wojcicki letting her killer robot versions of SammyClassicSonicFan, Super Minecraft Kid, and Peluchin Entertainment have an epic battle with a hero robot version of Chadtronic, a very entertaining fight scene between penguinz0, Nikocado Avocado, and tyler1, and a battle scene with iShowSpeed and Talking Ben.
- There's also the fight seen between Prince Georg Friedrich (the great-grandson of Wilhelm II) and BlakeIsHere.
- There was a lovely tribute to Susan Wojcicki, Edd Gould, Etika, Pie Pivot-O, Angry Grandpa, Miranda Cracraft (Markiplier's niece), John McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye's father), Bashurverse, Dillon The Hacker, Technoblade, Jimmy Carter and Grant Thompson during the post-credits scene.
Reception
YouTube: The Movie gained mostly negative reviews from audiences and critics alike, mainly due to the YouTubers acting nothing like their original selves as well as the desperate attempts at trying to be hip and trendy and the horrible plot twist of an entire team of villains being the true villain. The movie currently sits at a 23% critic score and a 36% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and has a 3.2/10 on IMDb.
Left-leaning critics praised it for attacking megacorporations and corporate greed, while right-leaning critics attacked it for mocking Donald Trump and accused it of being "woke propaganda".
When many YouTubers were asked about their experiences with being in this movie, most YouTubers such as MrBeast, DanTDM, PeanutButterGamer, Flippy, Shane Dawson, James A. Williams, Logan Thirtyacre, and a few others claimed that it was the worst experiences of their life and they said that they never want to work with the directors of the movie ever again. James A. Williams was especially critical of the way that the directors portrayed him in the movie, asking "do you really think I take Thomas & Friends that seriously?" in his review.
Despite this, the movie was a commerical success, making 300 million dollars at the box office.
