My Little Pony: A New Legacy is a 2024 animated film based on the television show, My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic.

    Plot

After everyone in Equestria defeats Queen Chrysalis, Lord Tirek, and Cozy Glow, a brand new villain comes to Equestria. His name is Rotten Corrupt and he is an alicorn. He uses his code-glitching powers to corrupt Equestria. The Mane 6 and Spike escape before they get corrupted. The find out that Equestria is now in a computer and they need to shut it down so they can save everyone.

    Why It Sucks

    1. To get the elephant out of the room, the plot is garbage. It's so bad, that a fan with no experience with scriptwriting could have written this and it would be a million times better.
    2. The characters are very unlikable in this movie, and have been severely flanderized.
      • Twilight went from being a likable, natural-born and intelligent alicorn type of pony and the leader of the Mane 6, who can be OCD at times, to a selfish jerk who wants everything her own way.
      • Rainbow Dash went from being a well-meaning, loyal, but speedy, tomboyish, and sometimes irresponsible pegasus type of pony, who can go fast and has a dream of joining the Wonderbolts, which she officially gets to do so to a more annoying, competitive version of Lynn Loud Jr.
      • Pinkie Pie went from being a hyper, wacky, but joyful and happy comic relief type of pony who always throws parties and is the one who breaks the fourth wall a lot, to an annoying, over hyperactive moron who doesn't care about anything she does.
      • Applejack went from being a down-to-earth type of pony who helps on her farm called Sweet Apple Acres, kicking down many trees to get the apples, and is well adjusted but can sometimes be stubborn, to a jerk who is a know-it-all and is incredibly neglectful to her family.
      • Rarity went from an artful, creative and generous unicorn type of pony who enjoys making fashion, despite her vain and melodramatic tendencies, to a drama queen who overreacts to everything and only cares about fashion.
      • Fluttershy went from a calm, kind-hearted, but shy Pegasus type of pony who takes care of many kinds of animals, but can be easily frightened sometimes and uses "The Stare" to get bad animals under her control, to a cowardly idiot who screws everything up and feels like a nobody.
      • Spike went from a loyal, loveable and faithful assistant to Twilight Sparkle, to a butt-monkey and unfunny comic relief who messes things up for the main characters and gets abused at the same time.
    3. The title is a rip off of Space Jam: A New Legacy. Also, we already have an MLP movie with A New" in it!
    4. Bad humor. Most of it consists of fart jokes and toilet jokes. Also, there are inappropriate jokes like when Spike has sex with Rarity! Spike is underaged, and this is a kids movie!
    5. There is an unfunny Family Guy easter egg with Brian and Stewie Griffin traveling to the MLP universe. But it just doesn't work since they don't do anything. All they do is appear, look at the ponies for 2 seconds, and then go away. Plus, I doubt the kids will know who those characters are since Family Guy is an adult cartoon. Plus, Family Guy doesn't have that much to do with MLP.
    6. There is a scene with the cutie mark crusaders, who are kids, being pregnant. That is basically like Stimpy's Pregnant, Stewie Is Enceinte,Captain Mom (Henry Danger), Fart Baby, and Chicken in the Cradle To be fair, it isn't as bad since the CMC are females. But they are still kids. On top of that, their stomachs are bulged out for some reason. That doesn't make sense because in "Hard to Say Anything", Cadence didn't look fat when she got pregnant. But the only logical thing in this movie is how badly it bombed at the box office.
    7. 2 Words: Product placement. Instead of making up fake products so they can make fun of the real thing, they use real products and praise them so people will buy them in real life.
    8. Plot holes:
      • Where did Rotten Corrupt come from?
      • How did he get his powers?
      • When Brian and Stewie saw what was happening, why didn't they try to stop the evil?
      • There is a 30 second scene where Twilight is right in front of the off button and doesn't press it. She could of ended the whole movie if she pressed the button but she hesitates for no reason.
    9. Lame action scenes, especially the scenes in the climax.
    10. Lack of faithfulness to the source material.
    11. Half of the songs are annoying, boring, and played at the wrong times.
    12. Terrible writing and directing. Both the writer and director were nominated for Razzies.

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. Amazing animation. Surprisingly, it was hand drawn. The characters also look very faithful to the original designs.
    2. Great voice acting, even though some talents were wasted.
    3. While half of the songs sucked, the other half were great. They sound nice and catchy.
    4. Some funny moments, like when Applejack gets mad when one of Rotten Corrupt's minions claims that apples taste like circus peanuts.
    5. Rotten Corrupt is the only likable character in this movie and he is a great villain, even with his flaws.

    Reception

My Little Pony: A New Legacy received generally negative reviews receiving criticism for its story, inappropriate moments, humor, flanderization of characters, use of product placement, and lack of faithfulness to the source material, while the movie was praised for its animation, voice acting and soundtrack. It holds a 5.1 on IMDb, a 24% on review agregator website Rotten Tomatoes, and a 30/100 on Metacritic, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews". It also bombed at the box office only making back $25 million against a budget of $75 million.
